A few trailers for games I'm excited about: Brutal Legend, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, Scribbenauts, Uncharted 2,

A Marvel executive stated that they're not going to be doing "crappy movie-based games anymore." After the pleasant surprise that was the Wolverine game, I can't say I'm complaining.

Much of the team at Endrant Studios that worked on Wolfenstein (released TODAY) has been laid off.

Capcom's Dark Void is going to be released on January 12th, kicking off a surprisingly busy 1st quarter.

Crytek says that the current generation of systems will last until at least 2012.

EA had a few announcements today:

Bad Company 2 release date in early March, Dante's Inferno release date in Februrary
Brutal Legend is getting a demo on September 17th

Video Games Live will be playing a show at GDC China.

Creative Assembly announced Napoleon: Total War for release next February.

Silent Hunter 5 was announced, releasing early next year.

Sony news

PS3 Firmware 3.0 revealed, the battery indicator has finally been fixed!

And the worst kept secret of the games industry, the PS3 Slim, has finally been revealed. It includes a 120gb harddrive and the standard features of the current models out there (no backwards compatibility). Launches in September for $299.

An FCC listing also indicates that a 250gb one might be in the works, as well.

Sony announced their PSP Minis series, a line of small (under 100mb) downloadable games for the system. They also revealed a digital comics program for the PSP.

Singstar is going to be integrated in with Playstation Home, somehow.

Housemarque, the team behind Super Stardust HD, revealed their next game: a twin stick shooter titled 'Dead Nation'.

LittleBigPlanet PSP has no multiplayer, but is supposedly a complete package beyond that omission.

A water based pack is coming as LittleBigPlanet DLC.

This Invisimals trailer is trying way too hard.

Microsoft news

Fable 3 is coming in late 2010.

And Fable 2 is going to be cut up and released over Xbox Live in episodic chunks. The first part will be free, then there will be a couple purchasing options, but no prices have been announced.

A Lost Planet 2 demo should hit sometime Wednesday.

Chromehounds' servers are being shut down in January. So many memories.

Apparently you can play through Alpha Protocol without killing a single person, much like Metal Gear Solid.

GameInformer has revealed the whole setlist (minus one song) for The Beatles: Rock Band.

Joystiq also has a hands on with the game's story mode.

The Rock Band Metal Track Pack is coming on Rocktober 13th, and will include 6 temporarily exclusive songs, including Motörhead's Killed By Death, hell yeah.

What used to be WoW's hardest instance, the Lair of Onyxia, is now a joke compared to newer content. However, the next patch will revamp it to the hardest instance yet again!

Id is working on three lines of iPhone games: Classic ones (like the incoming Doom and Quake 2), RPGs (like Wolfenstein RPG), and new games that will run on their Rage engine.

iPhone users: In celebration of QuakeCon, Doom Resurrection is $2.99 and Wolf 3D Classic is $.99 for for a couple days. The Wolfenstein RPG has also been released, and it is excellent.

Metal Gear Touch is also $2.99 for the next couple days.

The "expert game analyst" Pachter says that summer game droughts will likely become a thing of the past as companies realize that they can make money by releasing games outside of October-December.

Nielsen Media Research also says that more people are playing games now than ever before, possibly because of the value that games bring in this economy.

DLC impacts retail sales by causing gamers to buy less retail games and not trade them in as much? You don't say!

And Call of Juarez 2 is getting DLC in the coming months, though this isn't unexpected for a new game now.

The programmer behind the Atari 400/800 port of Donkey Kong revealed an easter egg that was completely undiscovered for over 25 years.

The Sesame Street Workshop says that video games can be good for kids!

Another Resident Evil movie is likely to be on the way.

Two Worlds 2 is coming out this winter I am one of the 3 people in the world who is uncontrollably excited for this.

Left 4 Dead 2 has twice as many preorders as the original did at this time last year, showing that angry nerds aren't enough to stop this game from selling hundreds of thousands of copies.

Universal bought the rights to make an Asteroids movie. Asteroids. I can't even think of something to say about that. Really? Asteroids?

A DLC pack is available for Battlestations Pacific today for 160msp/$2, and a larger one is coming on July 23rd for 800msp/$10.

Battlefield 1943 is being released next week on XBL and PSN for 1200msp/$15.

Capcom put up a teaser site for Sengoku Basara 3, which will likely never reach western shores.

Suda 51 says that any future No More Heroes games won't be on the Wii.

The Dragon Ball license has left Atari and returned to Namco-Bandai, signaling the final deathblow against Atari.

Apparently there's some hilarious SEC drama with Phantom Entertainment.

Some sort of Left 4 Dead DLC announcement will be made by the end of the summer.

Grandmaster Flash is one of the DJs in the upcoming DJ Hero, and two of his mixes were announced: Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" vs N.E.R.D.'s "Lapdance" and his own "Here Comes My DJ" vs Gary Numan's "Cars".

Good Old Games update: Crystals of Arborea, Ishar III were added to the Ishar compilation (you can get all 4 games for $5.99!) and Personal Nightmare is now available for $5.99.

The terrible indie FPS Merchants of Brooklyn was renamed Drug Wars, possibly to disassociate itself from the dozens of terrible reviews.

Piranha Bytes' upcoming game Risen will be released in October after some extensive bug testing, hopefully avoiding the same buggy fate Gothic 3 ended up in.

The Chinese "ban on gold farming" is not so much a ban on gold farming as it is banning using in-game currency to buy real items or gamble. That's kind of the inverse of the gold farming problem.

The top 30 game franchises of 2008 have been tallied up by Wedbush Morgan.

The entire development team at Blue Omega, developers of Damnation, have been laid off. This could be directly related to the fact that I have never heard of Damnation. (ed 2 note: it was a really mediocre FPS)

Red Faction Guerrilla is getting 3 DLC packs, the first of which is titled "Badlands" and will be released in August for $10/800msp.
